3 Reasons Every Business Needs A Domain And Website

Two of the biggest questions we get asked at West Coast Digital is “why do I need to invest in a website?” followed very closely by “do we need to be online at all?”

In today’s post I want to address the second question.

  1. Brand Visibility

    • A survey performed by Yelp back in 2012 showed that 85% of consumers searched online to find local businesses. With the rise of smartphones and tablets, we are more connected than ever before, and people search online for what they are looking for. Here is a real life example. Last week I was out with the family and we decided to get pizza for dinner, so I grabbed my phone and started searching for local pizza joints so I could phone through an order rather than wait at the store for half an hour with a hungry and screaming 3 year old. I knew there was one locally, but they were not online, so I could not find them and they lost my business as I drove past them to go and grab my order from their competitor.
  2. Brand Trust

    • Another review performed in 2014 by BrightLocal found that 88% of people read reviews to determine trust and quality of business.
Being connected means people are relying more and more on sources such as Yelp, Google+, TripAdvisor and Urbanspoon.Having your brand visible online allows you to capture reviews and nurture clients to ensure they receive a positive service and experience. Having positive and creditable reviews visible on your site allows consumers to gain trust.

Another useful thing to note that when leaving reviews, 61% by word of mouth, 38% by Facebook and directly on the business website tied in third spot (ahead of Google) with 13%.

Another trust aspect is professional email contact. Having your email as your domain such as info@yourbusiness.com goes a long way to building trust than yourcompany@yahoo.com for example.

  3. Brand Protection

    • A last point, which thankfully is in the minority, is brand protection. Unfortunately the simple fact of life is that we are connected more and more online as I previously said, and with that has arisen the role of online trolls, people that are out to damage a person or brands reputation. With more people trusting reviews, the last thing you want to leave the ability to do, is for someone to purchase your businesses domain name and proceed to post negative reviews under your brands identity. Thankfully this does not happen often, but I have seen it happen, so if you have not done so already, purchase your business domain name as soon as possible.
